Spelling Each week students will have 10 words to learn (5 words from their SWST list words and 5 words they have spelt incorrectly in their writing) to learn for the week. The best way to learn these words at home is to practice by doing LSCWC and then be tested on your words by a parent, brother or sister or friend. Students will be tested on these words every monday. You can also go to www.spellingcity.com, enter your words, then play games and take tests online.
How I created this page
1.
CREATE A NEW PAGE. In the left navigation menu I clicked on NEW PAGE
2.
NAME THE PAGE. In the PAGE NAME box I typed 'HOMEWORK' then clicked create. The page opened and I clicked SAVE without editing anything.
3.
ADD PAGE TO NAVIGATION MENU. At the bottom of the left navigation menu I clicked on EDIT NAVIGATION. I selected the position by clicking where I wanted the page to appear, hitting the ENTER key if I needed to insert a line and typing the name of the page HOMEWORK. Next, I highlighted the page name HOMEWORK and clicked on the LINK icon in the Editor Bar. Under the PAGE NAME box I clicked CHOOSE AN EXISTING PAGE, selected the HOMEWORK page then clicked ADD LINK. Now the HOMEWORK page appears in the navigation menu on the left.
4.
ADD A TABLE. To create a table I opened the HOMEWORK page then clicked on EDIT THIS PAGE in the top right of the screen. In the Editor Bar I clicked on the TABLE icon, entered the required columns and rows then clicked on INSERT TABLE. For the above table I chose 3 columns and 2 rows.
5.
ENTER TEXT & CREATE HEADINGS. To enter text in the table I clicked in the cell I wanted (at this stage the table is very small in the top left corner of the page). In cells I typed the words INTEGRATED STUDIES, BIKE EDUCATION, READING, TIMES TABLES & SPELLING and added my own information under each heading. I highlighted each heading then clicked the T (Text) icon in the Editor Bar. In the FONT box I chose ARIEL BLACK, in the SIZE box I clicked the + until it got to 180%, in the drop down box beside ALIGNMENT I chose CENTRE, and in the colour box I selected blue. Finally I clicked on APPLY STYLES.
6.
ADD IMAGES. To add an image I place the cursor exactly where I want the image to be placed in my page. I clicked on the File icon in the Editor Bar then on + Upload Files. I found an image on my computer which had been saved as a JPEG file then double-clicked on that file. I waited a few seconds until my image appeared at the top of the list then clicked on the image to add it to my wiki page. Where necessary I changed the alignment to center the image. I clicked on the SIZE + or - button to get the picture the size I wanted. When I was happy with the page I clicked on SAVE.
7.
HYPERLINK PAGES OR WEB SITES. I have hyperlinked some of the text by highlighting the words, clicking on LINK in the Editor. Choose WIKI LINK for a wiki page or EXTERNAL LINK for a web site you want to link.
8.
ADD A GIZMOZ. I wanted to make the page fun so I created a GIZMOZ. You will need to create an account first, then create an animation and copy the embed code into the wiki using the WIDGET icon in the Editor Bar, selecting OTHER HTML,paste in the embed code and then SAVE the page. If you need to resize the widget click on edit this page, then click on the widget and select EDIT WIDGET. Find the numbers indicating height and width and change them to suit, then click on save to see if you have the size right. You can always repaste in the embed code if you muck it up.
9.
Uploading a document. I clicked edit, placed the cursor where I wanted the document to load then clicked file. In the pop-up window I selected UPLOAD FILE, located the file on my computer then clicked SELECT. Once it loads into the top of the Image & File box I double-click it. The document appears in the wiki page in a grey box. I click SAVE and can then view the document which I have added. To open the document in the wiki page just double click on it.
